I grew up in a small town, at least an hour away from anything close to a city. I spent my childhood, and even now, exploring local creeks, rivers and lakes. That’s right, I have been fortunate to live in Michigan, 15 minutes from one of the beautiful Great Lakes, and only a short drive from the others.
I honestly believe my passion for the outdoors, especially fishing, has helped to forge a strong bond within my family. Since my three girls were little, they have been by my side hauling our poles and tackle box to our favorite fishing spots - which are not always the popular rivers where a large mouth bass is a guarantee.
Sometimes we visit a little stream and spend the afternoon catching minnow after minnow, or we put on our waders and go spearing for suckers. Other days, we board the boat and head out into the lake. This is where we catch the big ones.
Just ask my oldest. It was a gorgeous summer day and we were out on the lake fishing. All of a sudden, the line sprung and I dove for the reel. I could tell by the fight, this was the biggest fish I had ever caught. I yelled for her to get the net and be ready for it when I brought the fish in. All of a sudden, there it was!
"Get the net down there!”
I saw her coming from behind me and PLOP! She hit the fish on the nose, it broke free of the hook and swam away. I honestly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry!
It is stories like this that keep my family smiling and make my love for fishing continue to grow. That is why we have decided to set up this store, Fishing Supply Co. It is the next step in my family's passion for fishing (and an excuse to call my girls now that they are grown!).
For now, we just want to provide the very best materials for fly tyers. An avenue that we have thoroughly explored and enjoyed. My hobby turned into family laughs and memories; now we are working together on a site/store/blog to share with others.
